As we head into a new year, I’ve been thinking a lot about what really matters for business owners who want to lead well.
In this short video, I share one core piece of advice for leaders who want to lead with purpose and consistency in 2026.

Purpose Has to Be Lived, Not Just Stated
I believe leaders have to be purposeful in their everyday lives, in how they communicate and in how they act.
Purpose isn’t something you talk about once during a strategic planning session and then put on the shelf.
It becomes real when it’s the filter for every decision and every communication an owner makes.
If you’re making a controversial acquisition, or one that surprises people, can you clearly articulate why that decision moves the company forward?
If you need to make a change in leadership, can you explain how that change brings the organization closer to its mission and long-term strategy?
When purpose is clear and consistently referenced, people may not always agree with the decision, but they’ll understand it.
And understanding builds trust.
Consistency Builds Trust Inside the Organization
Trust doesn’t come from big speeches or inspirational posters.
It comes from consistency.
As a leader, you have to constantly connect your communication back to:
- Your purpose
- Your strategy
- Your mission
When people see that pattern over and over again, they begin to trust not just what you’re doing, but why you’re doing it.
That consistency makes it easier for teams to stay aligned, especially during periods of change.
Speak Plainly. Really Plainly.
One of the most common mistakes I see leaders make is overcomplicating their message.
- You don’t need buzzwords.
- You don’t need polished corporate language.
- You need clarity.
Clear communication builds understanding.
Understanding builds trust.
If people can’t understand what you’re saying, they can’t follow you, and they certainly can’t support the direction you’re trying to take the business.
Purposeful Leadership Is Practical Leadership
At the end of the day, purposeful leadership isn’t theoretical, it’s practical.
- It’s about being authentic.
- It’s about building trust through consistency.
- It’s about speaking plainly.
And it’s about connecting every major decision back to the overall purpose of the company.
When leaders do that well, clarity improves, confidence grows, and performance follows.
Leading with purpose and consistency doesn’t eliminate the challenges, but it makes them far more manageable.
